BASICS
CHARACTER NAME: Koriel XIII (This is his provisional title. He will go by this unless otherwise coming upon a real name in game.)
CANON: Baroque
CANON POINT: After the cycles between him and his brother in the body begin. This is about mid-game. (Baroque is
AGE: Roughly in his 20s physically and mentally. He died/lost his body when he was a child, but is depicted in game and in the manga material as being functionally the same age mentally as his brother as he was present in the Neuro Tower as one of the entities haunting it for years and aware of himself/the world around him. He is, in some aspects, shown to be the more mature and assertive brother when he has control of the body.
He and his brother share his brother's body at the point in canon he's being taken from, and his brother is physically about 22-25.
BACKGROUND
HISTORY: Koriel XIII, the nameless 'older brother' of Dextera, was born without a heart. Conjoined at Dextera's hip, Koriel XIII communicated with his brother only through notes and ongoing games of chess. He and his brother shared a heart and thus, were largely bedridden and had alternating sleep schedules to compensate for their heart's weakness.
We tend to see him sleeping in flashbacks more often that we see Koriel XII sleeping, but we know from the manga adaptation that he had the ability to resonate with God on the same level as Dextera, hearing her song when others in the Order of Malkuth did not. It is likely he and his brother were both the most in tune with God, though Koriel XIII seemed to be more introspective about it.
Koriel XIII was given his provisional title to allow the Order of Malkuth, implying that the medical staff had always intended for him to be the one to be sacrificed. It is unclear if he was aware of this, but there was a level of desperation apparent in his lines during the game and in flashback dialogue that insinuates he, as the older brother, may have at least been aware that they would not be allowed to stay together. His dialogue in both the game and manga make it clear that he, at that time, had been more dedicated to the idea of them dying together, having mentioned whispering in his ear that they needed to stay together forever.
The brothers' specific medical condition reached a point where the two could no longer live as one. As Koriel XIII did not have the heart in his body, it was decided that he would be sacrificed for Dextera's survival. Dextera, who was young and feared death, blamed himself because he did not want to die. He considers it his own fault that his brother was chosen to die instead of him. Koriel XIII is often seen throughout the game blaming his brother for being murdered in the end and betraying him. He states repeatedly that he was abandoned by him.
Death did not free Koriel XIII from the world. We see in the game and in the manga that he lives on as a ghost that haunts the Neuro Tower, occasionally confronting his brother during his journey through it. Koriel XIII informs him that he has been in perpetual torment since his brother 'sacrificed' him to survive. According to him, he is in continuous pain, feeling as though his body is aching and his chest is being crushed.
We also witness him take over Dextera's body for a period of time when Dextera withdraws after witnessing some painful memories. He tells Koriel XII that, when he remembered him, he descended 'back' into his body. They appear to both be in possession of Dextera's body, having become 'one' again. They maintain distinct conscious differences, though, and when they switch there is enough difference between their cadence, voice, and demeanor that other residents of the city outside of the Neuro Tower notice when he is in control of the body.
As Baroque is a rogue-like and focuses on a cycle of rebirth of the world, Koriel XIII experiences much of what his brother does as events and conversations have a tendency to repeat every time the world is reset.

PERSONALITY: Answer three of the following questions. Limit this section to 500-1,000 words in total, or 150-300 words per question. What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature? By and large, Koriel XIII comes off as somewhat unpleasant and rather strange to others when they first meet him. Though he's been conscious of himself for years, he hasn't had a chance to interact with others until recently and his social skills are lacking. Besides that, he bears a lot of resentment towards the world and is conflicted about his state of existence, so he comes off as rather morose. He doesn't trust easily and wants to keep others at arm's length.
Beyond this, though, he's a hurt person who has bared physical and emotional pain for over a decade. His honest self wants comfort and connection. He is full of loneliness and desperation, so he wants to cling to others even though struggles to allow himself an opening to be harmed again. If his brother, his other half, could betray him, why on earth wouldn't strangers do even worse? How does your character handle stress? What do they do in an emergency?
Koriel XIII can, in some ways, handle stress better than his brother, but he certainly doesn't handle it well depending on the stressor. He tends to lash out and grows volatile when dealing with people confront him. In a fight, he's more apt to be brash and violent and interpersonal stresses of a more intimate kind can confuse him or shut him down due to his lack of experience.
Despite this, given his prolonged exposure to the chaotic nature of the Neuro Tower and the monsters present within it, adversarial environments and dangerous situations are ones he can handle better than most. The hostility of the world following the Great Heat Wave is one he's well used to. The unpredictable nature of the changing world, especially following each 'reincarnation' of the world he and his brother trigger, also leave him capable of at least being able to navigate difficult situations with some level of confidence. What are your character’s fears? How do they hinder or challenge your character?
After being isolated for so long, Koriel XIII absolutely fears the idea of being abandoned. He would almost rather not connect to anyone at all if it means avoiding the horrible pain of being left behind by himself in the dark again. He wants to be loved and cherished desperately, but the fear of his own disposability haunts him.
Though he won't admit to it, he also fears the idea of truly dying again. He's unsure how to handle being in a corporeal form again, but oblivion is a much bigger fear than even losing his body again. Death is true loneliness with no chance of connection again. As someone who wanted just as badly to survive as his brother, losing his life twice is far too much. Aside from that, the idea of dying without his brother with him again feels like a second betrayal, even if it's outside of his brother's control.
POWERS
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Due to their connection, Koriel XIII has the ability to resonate with the God from fhis world as well as his brother. In his current body, he also has the ability to purify people. Purification can be seen as an ability to clarify the souls of those that are haunted by delusions, trauma, and illness, but the mechanics of this are specific to the rules of his world and the beings living there.
NERFING: Given the necessity of the God of his world and her influence distorting the world being essential to his purification powers being useful, he will not have them here. He may maintain a mild empathy with those he becomes very attached to.
WEAKNESSES: Due to the complications of his birth, his body is fairly weak and he has low stamina. Also, he has a higher need for consistent food intake or he starts to weaken.
